A few days before the end of Ramadan Muslims went to collect litter on the streets of Klaipeda city

A few days before the end of the Ramadan month, the Islamic Center together with the Klaipeda Muslim community organized a community work to collect garbage on the streets of Klaipeda city.

The month of Ramadan is not a time for lazing around, sleeping or watching TV during the day and overeating at night when the fast is broken. For good deeds done during Ramadan, Muslims expect a greater reward from God than at other times of the year.

Meanwhile, environmental management and cleanliness are among the principles of Islam. God says in the Qur'an: "Indeed, Allah loves those who repent and He loves those who purify themselves" [2:222], and the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Cleanliness is half of faith." Therefore, cleanliness in Islam is considered a form of worshiping God.

While collecting the litter, it was noticed that there is much more of it in our environment than we usually think. Sometimes you just need to look under your feet and it will be easy to see that we live in a much more polluted environment than we thought. Therefore, constant communal work is very important to keep our cities, parks and forests clean.

We sincerely thank Klaipeda City Municipality for the help in specifying the place to be cleaned and ordering garbage removal. God willing, this cleanup initiative will become an inspiration and example for all Lithuanian Muslims to contribute to environmental cleaning, both by joining "Mes Darom" activities and individual initiatives.
