Open Conversations about Islam in the Heart of Vilnius

9/5/2025

Right after the BŪTENT Festival, Islamo centras organized an informational event in Vilnius, at Vinco Kudirka Square. The purpose of this event was to give every passerby the opportunity to directly engage with Islam, ask their questions, and broaden their knowledge about the religion. Volunteers and community members from Islamo centras warmly interacted with people, answering their questions about the foundations of faith, everyday Muslim life, traditions, and customs.

During the event, visitors were also offered free copies of the Qur’an or other literature about Islam in Lithuanian, so that they could explore the religion more deeply from primary sources. This open and accessible format allowed people not only to hear answers but also to take the initiative themselves by bringing home literature and continuing their search for knowledge in their own time.

It is important to emphasize that the event took place in the very heart of the capital – Vinco Kudirka Square – an open and accessible public space. The choice of location was intentional: Islamo centras wanted to show its openness and accessibility to everyone, whether someone is consciously interested in Islam or simply passing by.

This event continued Islamo centras’ participation in the BŪTENT Festival and once again confirmed its commitment to actively contributing to public education, reducing stereotypes, and strengthening mutual understanding. The initiative reflects the center’s aspiration not only to present Islam as a religion but also to highlight the Muslim community as an open and dialogue-ready part of society.
