European Neighbours Day at Islamo centras

6/2/2025

Last Friday, Islamo centras hosted an open day event during the European Neighbours' Day. The aim of the event was to strengthen neighbourly ties, promote intercultural dialogue, and offer the wider public an opportunity to better understand the Muslim community.

The event brought together a diverse group of visitors – families with children, youth, seniors, neighbours, and guests from across the city. Friendly centre volunteers welcomed the attendees, and freshly prepared Uzbek plov was served to everyone – all 150 portions were given out within just a few hours!

One of the most popular activities was Arabic calligraphy – both children and adults joyfully took home beautifully decorated paper sheets with their names written in Arabic script. Among the guests were honourable representatives from the local municipality and police, who expressed their support for such community-building initiatives.

Visitors also had the opportunity to tour the Islamo centras facilities – the prayer hall, classrooms, and library. During the guided tour, the Centre’s various educational and social initiatives were introduced, and the concept of neighbourly rights in Islam was discussed. Lithuanian-language copies of the Qur’an were gifted to those interested.

The event took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, creating many heartfelt moments and further strengthening mutual understanding and trust within the community. Islamo centras hopes that such gatherings will become a cherished annual tradition.
