Community Clean-Up by Islamo centras in the Vicinity of Verkiai Cemetery

5/24/2026

Last saturday Islamo centras community, together with the Lithuanian Kyrgyz community, organized a clean-up event in the vicinity of Verkiai Cemetery. During the initiative, volunteers collected litter, cleaned the surrounding area, and contributed to the upkeep and preservation of this important location. People of different ages took part in the event, united by a shared desire to contribute to the common good and demonstrate respect for the environment.

This initiative is part of the community’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and active participation in civic life. For Muslims, protecting nature and acting responsibly toward the environment are important values. Therefore, activities such as this are not only an expression of civic responsibility but also of moral responsibility.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Verkiai Eldership (Verkiai Local Administrative Office) for its cooperation, assistance, and support in organizing this initiative. Joint efforts such as these demonstrate that local communities, municipal institutions, and civil society organizations can successfully work together toward a common goal.

By cleaning the area around Verkiai Cemetery, we contribute not only to the maintenance of a specific site but also to the broader preservation of Lithuania’s natural environment. Every piece of litter collected and every area restored helps create a cleaner, more beautiful, and healthier environment for all residents of the country. We believe that initiatives like this will continue to strengthen community spirit, encourage responsibility, and contribute to the preservation of Lithuania’s nature and public spaces for future generations.
